This is arroz con mango, irregularly uploaded musings on what I’ve been reading, listening to, and watching etc.

Arroz con mango is an idiom my mother says a lot to describe things that don’t go together. Per wordmeaning.org, it’s “an incongruous mix of things.”

In college, I joined WHPK, my campus’ radio station. In the dead of Chicago winter at 7am on Fridays, I had little desire to choose a theme for my show which would incidentally force me to play a certain genre week after week, requiring dedicated planning and eventually research.

Thus ‘arroz con mango’ was born. The hour long show was chaotic in content and production. But hey! it was in the name, the listener had been warned. And now you too reader, have also been warned.

Much like college radio, Substack feels like screaming into the void. Or talking to yourself. You’ll find some book reviews (sparingly uploaded to @littlelibrary305), playlists, photos of art I’ve come across, and musings on Tik Tok or whatever else pops into my head.

I’m not sure how many people (if any) this will reach, but from one opinionated person to the next, I would love to hear feedback or requests on what to write about.
